Andre Norman grew up in the inner city of Boston and struggled with poverty and illiteracy. Eventually he found himself involved with gangs, violence and a 100 year prison sentence. The first six years, he immersed himself in prison culture, gaining status and recognition within the system. This led to him being placed in solitary confinement for two years. During this time he decided to turn his life around. He managed to be released from prison after serving 14 years. Andre is now an author, a speaker, a mentor and currently runs the Academy of Hope, a violence reduction prison based program.
